The community has spoken! Our “Treasured Views” Workshops gathered people from all around the region to identify and document their favorite views along the Appomattox River. Now, we’ve got a round-up of some of our top “Treasured Views!”
- Campbell’s Bridge, Petersburg – Just on the outskirts of VSU, this overlook offers passers-by scenes of people fishing, trees leafing out, and the fall line of the river. The University Blvd Trailhead right around the corner gives people access to explore the riverfront ecosystem.
- Hopewell Riverwalk, Hopewell – The City Park Riverwalk is a great place for recreation and relaxation. Opportunities for birding are a plenty as our native birds make their way across the river!
- Ferndale Park, Dinwiddie – Secluded and serene, this park has trails abound as it weaves between the river and historic canal system. Sycamore trees line the slopes as ducks wander around the pond.
This preliminary data will help us continue our work to preserve such culturally and naturally significant places in our region. We’re excited to share the final data when that is finalized by Scenic Virginia! Which site will you visit first?
