This week GOVERNOR YOUNGKIN VISITED the Appomattox River Trail University Blvd Trailhead in Petersburg to learn more about FOLAR’s work to help our regional communities complete the 25-mile Appomattox River Trail & Park system. The Governor was in town as part of his Partnership for Petersburg initiative with Matt Wells, Director-VA DCR. Petersburg’s leadership invited FOLAR staff to lead a walking tour and discuss the many benefits of completing the trail – especially through Petersburg where life expectancy is almost 13 years lower than it is for the rest of the Commonwealth. Completing the trail through Petersburg will be an important factor in increasing daily activity, improving health and wellness, and growing economic prosperity for us all, and it aligns well with the initiatives of the Partnership. Petersburg Mayor Sam Parham provided very positive comments, saying “the work of FOLAR is extremely positive and brings our region together in support.”
