Classmates of the Hopewell High School class of 1962 gathered on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 along the Appomattox River to dedicate three benches and leftover money from our former reunion funds to FOLAR (Friends of Lower Appomattox River) in an effort to help create a world-class river trail. Since several treasurers involved in our reunion committees did a great job of managing our money for these 55 or so years, we were able to make a substantial donation to FOLAR. We think this donation will help to support active living, economic growth and conservation of special places along this historic river. We challenge other organizations and individuals to donate and help revitalize this waterway which is one of the most beautiful scenic places in this area. FOLAR is a non-profit organization founded on contributions from local and national businesses. Wayne Walton, past chair of the FOLAR Board of Directors, said “everyone can get involved.” That is one reason the HHS Class of 1962 wants to be remembered for being involved in this important waterway project in the City of Hopewell and Prince George County. Visit https://folar-va.org/ to join and see how you too can help make a difference.
