Come out and paddle to preserve the Appomattox River
Check-in and Shuttle begins at 8:00AM

Register now for the best paddling event of the year on the Appomattox River. Includes shuttle, breakfast snacks, picnic lunch, T-Shirt, and racing awards!
2-Mile Course option – flat water, easy up-and-back paddle. 9:30AM start at Hopewell Marina near the convergence with the James River turnaround at Anchor Point Marina and paddle back to Hopewell. Drive yourself to Pocahontas Island Park for lunch and award program.
10-Mile Self-guided Course begins at Hopewell City Marina with the finish at historic Pocahontas Island in Petersburg. The entire route is flat water in the tidal section of the river. The incoming tide is expected for the event. Buoys, mile markers, and monitor boats will be out along the course.
10-Mile Guided Route with Hopewell Rec & Parks includes kayak and all equipment rental follows the same Hopewell to Petersburg route. You’ll learn about some cool sites with a Hopewell Recreation & Parks guide and you’ll be sure to stay on course! About a 3 hour paddle with the tide.
All Leisure Paddles Begin: 9:30AM
10-Mile Race begins at Hopewell City Marina with the finish at historic Rotary Pocahontas Island Park in Petersburg.
Race Start Time: 10AM. Best time to beat is 1 hour, 39 minutes!
First Place Racing Awards for categories: Under 50 Male and Female and for Over 50 Male & Female. Trophy presentation at the finish is at noon.

All participants are required to complete liability waiver. Parental signature required for all persons under 18 years of age. Under 17 must be accompanied by an adult. Properly worn PFD’s are required.
Limited number of event day kayak rentals are available, $20 each. Call Richard, 804-490-8143, to reserve.
TRANSPORTATION: Shuttle will run to and from the start and finish, 8:00 from Petersburg to Hopewell – 10:00AM and 12:00 – 2:00PM
If you plan to take the shuttle in the morning, please email GetInvolved@folar-va.org to reserve a seat. Limited seating available.
Option #1: Drop your boat at the Hopewell Marina in the morning. Drive to Pocahontas Island to park and take shuttle back to Hopewell to start your paddle.
Option #2: Park in Hopewell at the launch/registration site. At the finish in Petersburg, a shuttle will return you and your kayak or canoe to Hopewell.
Option #3: You can also leave a second vehicle at the Pocahontas Island site and proceed to Hopewell (for the start) with your canoe/kayak/SUP.
$25 per adult 18 & over; $20 under 18, Students, and Active Duty/Retired Military
Day of Event Registration: $35 per adult; $30 under 18, Students, and Active Duty Military
GUIDED course – $45 per adult 18 & over; $40 under 18, Students, and Active Duty/Retired Military – Pre-registration required.
Battle or Paddle registrants receive a T-shirt, breakfast snacks and picnic lunch.
