FOLAR Establishes Fund Development Committee

At the inaugural meeting of the newly formed Friends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR) Fund Development committee, FOLAR Chairman, WayneJohnny_Partin_head_website Walton, appointed Johnny Partin to serve as Committee Chairman. Committee members unanimously supported the appointment.

“Fundraising and Fund Development are critical for the long term sustainability of FOLAR”, says Walton, “Johnny has been very active raising money for FOLAR including significant work developing the required documentation that helped to secure a $20,000 grant award from the Cameron Foundation.”

Partin, 23, is the youngest board member on FOLAR’s Board of Directors, serving alongside Wayne Walton as representatives from the City of Hopewell on the environmental nonprofit board. Partin, born and raised in Hopewell, is a Project Estimator at Shoosmith Construction in Chester and an officer in the Virginia National Guard. He is very excited about his new leadership role and is looking forward to increasing FOLAR’s success.

“I am extremely honored that Mr. Walton would appoint me to lead this very important committee”, says Partin, “I am looking forward to working with the localities, industries, local businesses, civic groups, other nonprofits, and most importantly community members to make FOLAR a self sustaining organization, so we can continue to enhance, preserve, and encourage the wise use of the lower Appomattox River, while fostering eco-economic development. ”

Wendy Austin, Executive Director of FOLAR, said “In addition to Johnny Partin’s significant fund raising skills, his appointment demonstrates the commitment by the FOLAR Board to develop future leadership for long term sustainability.”

The Fund Development Committee is responsible for ensuring best practices in the activities undertaken to fulfill the financial needs of FOLAR. The committee is charged with assisting the board of directors with the research of grants, working with localities, and expanding the donor base for FOLAR’s general operations, initiatives, and programs that improve the quality of life in our region.

“I know this committee is going to do amazing things, because we have amazing people with amazing talent”, says Partin.

The members of the Fund Development Committee are Heather Barrar (Chesterfield County), Debbie Newman (Prince George County), Richard Taylor (Petersburg), and Johnny Partin (Hopewell). Barrar, Newman, and Taylor all bring decades of experience in finance, planning, and fundraising. In the past year, FOLAR has also established new Education and Finance committees and with the addition of the Fund Development committee the Board completes the creation of its major standing committees. This provides a strong structure to enable FOLAR to enhance its financial support and be an exceptional steward of those funds as they are invested in operational expenses, educational initiatives, and environmental service projects.
