RIVER CLEAN-UPS

FOLAR hosts river clean-ups throughout the year.  See below for details for the next scheduled clean-up.

Saturday, September 10th 9:00am-Noon

University Blvd Trailhead
527 University Blvd
Petersburg, VA 23803

The University Blvd Trailhead of the lower Appomattox River Trail is a new native plant garden for people and native wildlife to enjoy. We will be cleaning the area by removing weeds and invasive plants. The trailhead and surrounding area include an ADA-compliant trail, and a river overlook and seating area. Volunteers will remove trash on the trail, pull weeds from the three garden beds, and tackle some invasive plants along the first half-mile of trail. Gloves, tools, and buckets for trash and weed removal provided. No plant knowledge required. Please bring your refillable water and insect repellent or sunscreen. Wear closed toe shoes. Snacks and extra water bottles provided!

The Appomattox River is a major tributary of the James River, and FOLAR is co-hosting this volunteer river clean-up with JRAC – the James River Advisory Council – as part of a regional effort.
