Appomattox River Regional Park Trail Extension

FOLAR in partnership with Prince George Parks and Recreation is in the progress of contracting to build 2 raised walkways in the park. This will extend the current trail about 1500' west. The cost will be about $15,000 paid for through donations and grants from various donors. Completion is expected by the end of the summer. This will bring the total acreage to 67 and add another half mile of trails. This project is complete.

FOLAR - Projects

FOLAR has been working to renovate the Park at Ferndale. Owned by Petersburg and in Dinwiddie County the park has been a recreational spot for many years. Over the past 2 years FOLAR, Wal-Mart and the City of Petersburg has worked together to fix things in and around the park. Our latest project is to try and restore the water level in the old canal. This past winter part of the abutment dam fell over causing the canal to go dry in some places. On a recent weekend soldiers from Fort Lee came out and cleaned the debris around the gate to the canal. They also tried to patch a hole in the spillway dam along the canal. This is an ongoing project so stay tuned and come out and visit this historical gem. This project is completed and water is back in the canal.
